General construction contractors in Colorado are not licensed by the state. You should check for license requirements at the local level. You will need a license to do electrical or plumbing work in the state, however.

Electrician's Licenses

The Board will review your application and if you're eligible they'll send you information on the exam they require.
For a master license you need to document five years of electrical experience; four years of that time must be electrical construction wiring, for lights, heat, and power; with a minimum of two years of that time being commercial and/or industrial work. One additional year must be in planning, lay-out, supervising, and installing wiring, apparatus, and equipment for electrical light, heat, and power.
For a journeyman license you need four years of electrical construction wiring experience, for lights, heat, and power; with a minimum of two years of that time being commercial and/or industrial work. Therefore, your verification letters must state the percentage of your time spent performing commercial/industrial wiring, and the percentage of your time spent performing residential wiring.
Applicants for the residential wireman's license are required to provide verification of two years of electrical construction wiring experience, for lights, heat, and power; of one, two, three, and four family dwellings.

Electrician's license fees: The
application processing fee is $50. The original license fee is part of the
written examination fee so that at the time you take and pass the written exam,
you will receive your license at no additional charge. The written exam
fee is currently $72.
Colorado has journeyman reciprocal license agreements with Alaska, Arkansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Reciprocal license applications are available at http://www.dora.state.co.us/Electrical/reciprocal.htm. There is a $50 application processing fee and a $30 license fee.
To register as an electrical contractor in Colorado you need to get an Application for Electrical Contractor's Registration from the Electrical Board. The form is available online at http://www.dora.state.co.us/electrical/forms/contractor.pdf. You'll be asked about your workers' compensation and unemployment insurance coverage. You'll also have to sign an Acknowledgment of Responsibility form to register. It will cost you $150 to register.
Plumber's Licenses
To do plumbing work in Colorado you need a license. Colorado issues master, journeyman, and residential licenses. To apply for a license, contact:

To apply for a master license you need to document five years of plumbing work experience; four years for a journeyman license; and two years for a residential license. You can apply every six hours of plumbing training in an accredited school for one hour of work experience, up to one year. You can also apply plumbing work in the military at the rate of one month for every six months, up to one year.

If you can prove you have a valid license in a state with qualifications at least equal to Colorado's and you've had the license for at least six months, you may be eligible for a Colorado license by endorsement. You must have passed an exam on the Uniform Plumbing Code. You'll still need to pay the license fee.
Department of Transportation (DOT)
To bid on a public project in Colorado you must be prequalified by the Colorado Department of Transportation. To get an application, contact:

Some of the details the Department will ask you about are your organization, personnel, financial condition, equipment, and experience. You'll also be asked what type of work your company does with your own equipment. Here are the types of work the Department considers:
