Department of Transportation (DOT)
To work on state projects in Hawaii you need to be registered to do business in Hawaii and have an appropriate contractor's license. You won't need these to bid a job, but you will need them to land the contract. You may also need to fill out a prequalification form from the state Department of Transportation. Usually they require this the first time you bid as a prime contractor on a department project. They'll ask you about your work experience, financial condition, and what equipment you own.
To get a Standard Qualification Questionnaire for Prospective Bidders on Public Work Contracts, contact:
| Department of Transportation 869 Punchbowl Street Honolulu, HI 96813 http://www.state.hi.us/dot/ |
This prequalification is good for at least one year.
Out-of-state corporations must get a Certificate of Authority to do business in Hawaii. To apply for this certificate, contact:
| Department of Commerce & Consumer
Affairs Business Registration Division P.O. Box 40 Honolulu, HI 96810 (808) 586-2727 Fax: (808) 586 2733 http://www.state.hi.us/dcca/breg-seu |
